Residential Log Cabins, Not Residential Log Cabins
Warning to all those thinking they are purchasing a Residential log cabin, 99.9% of the stuff sold on the internet by most cabin companies is Not Residential.. Please read this blog!
The word residential is used by most cabin companies that are based abroad, and do not really understand the word residential cabin!
A residential cabin must be built either to the BS3632 or to full building regulations with full structural calculations. If the cabin has neither and is built to neither then it is just a common garden cabin, no more no less! It may have cost a huge amount more because the word residential was attached which makes you think!! Arrr Dwelling!!!
Too many companies from the Baltic’s, and Scandinavia use the terminology Residential Log Cabin to proclaim that their flimsy 44mm log cabins are fit for human habitation, they are not!
These cabins are not structurally sound and are not fit for purpose.
So when purchasing a Residential Log Cabin, be it glulam, or solid, timber frame, or hand made Norwegian log, make sure that what you are purchasing is truly a building fit for purpose, and that it is manufactured to either the BS3632 of full build regs.
There is no gray area here, it either is, or is not!!! THAT’S IT!
Secondly, a word of warning to the Public.
If you purchase a Log Cabin that looks like most dreadful caravans, and you think the planners will allow you to keep it, as its within the guidelines of size and shape, then take note, they won’t.
The BS3632 is quite stringent (even though it is the worst British Standard ever dreamt up) about ventilation, how the roof is assembled, pitch, and the way the body is assembled, and and and!
So if you are thinking of purchasing a Residential Log Cabin talk to the people that really know what’s what, and also who offer realistic pricing.
As we say in the industry, it’s easy to buy cheap, but you buy twice if you do!
We are able to help you with planning, build regs and other issues.
So do not get tempted to buy a cabin from the web with the word residential attached, as 99.9% are nothing but glorified garden cabins. And most a terribly built, awful designed, and last 3 years.
And lastly, if you do try and get away with buying a cheap cabin that looks like an awful static caravan, in the hope that your local building inspector might give you a squeeze and let you keep it up, and he does not! Then do not go crying foul to the credit card company about the log cabin company misleading you!

Key symptoms include canopy thinning branch dieback, and black weeping patches and lesions underlying the bleed spots.
Knowing all this the question is why are we allowing industry to use our beloved oak for, door stops, sheds, beach huts, garden buildings, garages, internal beams, etc.
The reason is partly to do with history, and that the fact that England sadly needs to change its habits in construction and what timber to use.

Its not that the price is cheaper, its that it’s a knock off design, with rubbish windows and doors, cheap floor, cheap hardware, and missing parts!
One member of the public called us the other day and asked us if we could supply 8 clock house windows and a set of double doors, because the clock house she had bought from another manufacture, the windows and doors had basically as she put it, “Fell Apart” the company had cease trading! Surprise, Surprise! No her name was not Cilla. Sadly, the wall logs were a unregulated size and our windows and doors were to big to fit the wall profile.
If you are looking to purchase a quality log cabin, don’t think cheap, don’t think quick, think quality, think 4 weeks! You want your log cabin to stand up and be the best it can be, none of us want to throw our money down the drain, yet daily, there are people purchasing bulk manufactured log cabins, which is as good as throwing your money away!
If you come across a company bragging that they sell 1500 buildings a month, this is the equivalent to 150 trucks, which is impossible!
However, if they were doing such quantities, you can be sure their production is 100% Crap!

Highly Insulated Timber Frame Housing
As one of the largest timber frame house suppliers in Norway, we are often asked to manufacture highly insulted timber frame buildings for the northern most part of the country. Norwegians are very much into keeping the landscape looking natural and designing their properties to blend into the countryside.
Norway has one of the highest build regulation standards in the world. TEK 10.
Three times that of the UK and most of Europe.
Insulation values are a major part of this high standard, but also on par with insulation is build quality. Visual Graded CE KD C24 is the only grade expectable for all weight bearing walls, roof etc. Most of Europe and UK use Visual Graded C16, which is the bottom most part of the Visual Grade Scale. (Please ask your builder which grade he is thinking of using in your timber frame build).
Norwegians love to use sedum roofing out in the wilds, as this offers amazing insulation properties to the timber frame or Log Cabin dwellings and gives the building a natural feel, and also brings natural into the design, so it’s a plus, plus , plus!
Sedum roofing is a very heavy alternative to steal tiles, or shingles. All our timber frame buildings are built regardless if they are erected in Northern Norway or Essex with strength in every part of the construction.

Sorry for starting this blog attacking the establishment, but we truly believe the BS 3632 build code to which 99.9% of shed manufactures, or so called Park Home Manufactures abide by is truly not fit for purpose, and in the end you will see zero return on your investment of thousands of pounds / Euros as this build code is truly meant for only the manufacturer to earn from. The BS 3632 build code should be obsolete!
Timber Grading is just so immensely important where timber frame buildings-Park Homes-Glulam Log Cabins etc are concerned.
This 6.7 m x 18.0 m 3 bed residential Timber Frame Park Home is possibly the most sought after size in the industry, boasting 3 beds, 2 bathrooms, lounge, and kitchen, and other useful rooms.
We have a build team fully CIS registered, we are also have tradesmen’s that work part of our build team that offer all trades and are all registered tradesmen, Electric, Gas etc. Our Steel Sub frame is hand built, and absolute quality!
