Log Cabins LV Friday’s Blog, and what a response I received today about yesterday’s blog, thanks everyone, and to one particular person, (not interested)..

I will answer some of the question in the emails.

(Dear Log Cabins LV , Why has the marketplace turned for the worst)?

To this question, I would say because of huge demand!

Which means very large industrial units has been built to mass-produce large qualities of cheap log cabins.

A quality mill can manufacture a good quality long lasting, high-end cabin in say 3 hours.

So about 4 a day, possibly 5 depending on the size of each and every cabin.

A bulk manufacture will produce 40 to 60 cabins a day.

Now a few of you will say, that’s great, feed the demand earn, great business, but I would say, how to make 80 to 120 windows and day and 60 + doors, and then you begin to understand how quality is not the goal.

Windows and doors are labor intensive, and must be put together by hand.

When we manufacture a door it goes in a press, when the bulk mills manufacture a door, it goes in a pile, full of nail and quick drying glue!

Also manufacturing windows and doors is an art, but sadly, in the cheap massed produced super store type mills, it is a nail gun!

Our standard cabins, which come with what we would say garden type windows and doors, are better than most upgrades offered on the web!

So what most super store bulk manufacturers tend to do, is buy in very cheap, unseasoned, softwood, pine spruce, that is only 15/25 years old, because the timber is softer less dense, it dries a lot quicker, which also means drying time is less.

In addition, the timber costs a lot less to purchase.

The whole idea behind mass is to produce as much as possible, sell it as quickly as possible and NEXT!

Not the Log Cabins LV way!

Our way of manufacturing log cabins is completely the reverse, as we do not manufacture bulk, we do not hurry, as manufacturing anything quality takes time, we have no reason or want to change this process.

What I find amazing is how the public can, actually purchase these cheap monstrosities, it really is beyond me. For an extra 300 to 700 you can purchase a cabin that will last 60 to 70 years, with windows and doors that are actually residential standard.

(What is the difference between LV and the rest)

Simple, we understand how the market moves, we understand change in demand, and we understand that hurrying anything leads to mass problems.

I am not saying we have never had problems, as that would be a lie, we have had huge problems, and sometimes our manufacturing department does not agree with what we feel is their fault.

But we soldier on and find the fault and move on.

My personal hate is when a dealer, reseller, (we don’t have anymore of these) just sits behind his desk, and actually does zero.

Our dealers are very proactive, incredibly actually, always doing site visits, and always looking how to finish the job off with a satisfied customer at the end.

Unlike any company in the UK who offers log cabins, we can say that our very first customer, is still offering our brand of log cabins to the public, still, which is more than 14 years, and actually his company has grown on the strength of our quality, he is also the largest seller of log cabins in the South East of UK.

Of course, he has been offered low-end bulk super store log cabin designs, but he said, (stay with what we know works)…

Dealers are immensely important, but also making sure, your dealers do not over price the buildings because of the quality level.

We have never had that problem, due to the vetting we do before we allow anyone now to be an LV dealer. In addition, we also have work groups, which helps our dealers to understand us and us them.

However when you follow the link to that page, there are zero photos and they make no mention again of the CE kite mark.

This is a typical scam, and it’s done on so many super store sites.

Also how much experience do they have in the Cabin industry.

Now this I laugh at…

OK.. 15 years ago there were 2 companies selling log cabins into the UK, there was us, and there was another, who sadly went bankrupt.

But that was it, no one else, absolutely no one. NO ONE!!!

So what upsets me more than anything is when I read on a website, that companies proclaim to have been in the business 25 years, or even 40, well, I just raise my eyebrows and say what a crock of crap!

It is important to document this, as I love this industry, and because we have been here from the very beginning and also we are proud to have brought many companies into this industry.

Actually there are a few I wish I had never met, helped, and mentored , but mostly I am quite proud at pushing standards up.

There are companies that are still out there using our designs and proclaiming to be LV as they as always-just want to con the public into to purchasing a superstore type building and shouting its an LV. or they will try and persuade the customer to buy some rubbish claiming its better… These kinds of dealers do not last very long.

We have been in the industry long enough to know that what comes around goes around.

So its vital you call LOGCABINS LV on the London number and ask us if a dealer is really our dealer.

Beware of those con men with zero principles, where you money and a lie are more important than honesty and quality.

Next, what is very important is that you do not purchase a mass-produced building from the bulk super store type franchise, and there is a very good reason for this.

Log Cabins that are massed produced really are sub-standard, I can hear all the sellers of the superstore resellers screaming, but hay ho, like I said there needs to be a blog that tells the truth about this industry and really lay it bare.

Factories only have X amount of undercover storage room, and they must store their mass produced buildings undercover, and obviously they stack them one of top of another.

Just say a 6000mm x 4000mm log cabin, weighs about 1.3 tons, and they put 6 of them on top of each other.

Most of the time, it is 8 high.

Anyway, the bottom pack, (6 stack) (this could be your building) has had 6.3 tons sat on it over the winter.

Yes, winter, so the word freshly manufactured building, plans ready in a day and only 25/30% deposit, well sadly you have to laugh, as its all bull!

To mass manufacture, and really get the numbers out there, as bulk manufacturing is a numbers game for mass profit, and dropping prices.

Quality, and really not caring about credibility, they must manufacture in the winter, and they must store in bulk.

I have never liked this type of business, it’s degrading for the good cabin companies, as the superstore type bulk manufacture wastes most of the time good flooring and roofing material.

Also these bulk mill actually rise prices for roof material and floor material, the thicker logs 34mm, 44mm type sizes, most of these companies purchase logs that are honestly fit to be pulp, normally very young timber, from very warm climates.

Definitely not amazing quality like from northern Russian!

The best timber in the world is Russian, I do not care what anyone else has to say, Northern Russian Pine or Larch is the best of the best!

Moreover, lets thank Putin for taking care of it, as in Yeltsin’s time, 1990 etc the forests were attacked savagely.

Deforestation was at that time a very big concern.

It is ludicrous and quite amusing how we attack people who actually stand up for their sovereignty, and want to stop mass invasion and keep identity.

Also not allowing the EU to come marching in a strip bare the very fabric of the country and leave behind nothing but debt! Which has been the case from day one!!

These questions we are asked so many times a day, I just thought I would write a quick blog to help those that don’t know.

If you are looking to put a cabin in your back garden to live in, or rent out, you will need planning, if you are looking to use the cabin, timber frame room, as a bedroom for your mother to live in, then that’s fine, as long as it’s under all other development rules, i.e under 30 sq metres, and under 2.5m tall if beside the boundary fence, wall.

No we have been told by numerous people that if you have just a shower room with toilet, the council will not jump on you, but if you add a toilet and a kitchen, they will.

We have been told its either one of other.

It’s always better to ask before you purchase a cabin and be told somewhere down the road you need planning, and to take down the cabin immediately.

You will need to have planning for anything over 30 sq meters which you intend to live in.

Full building regulations are needed for any dwelling.

There are so many people that try and get around this rule, and yes most council are greedy for cash and will charge you large sums of money for absolutely nothing, and most of the time they reject the project.

What’s the answer to this, vote in a council that will be more understanding to the government’s overcrowding policies and actually allow you to build.

Denmark and Sweden are far more understanding with its population, and understand that when you allow 3 to 4 million extra people into your living room, you need to open up the patio doors and start using the garden.

Our Micro Houses are actually a very cheap, and solid way to put some of the housing crisis to sleep, in Denmark, Sweden, Micro houses are now given dwelling status, and also have their own street address and number. And as a starter home make perfect sense.

When purchasing a camping pod, you need to understand what to look for and how longevity and quality of build is so incredibly important.

In addition, many campsites that have cheap pods fail to put up the correct signage, and regulations.

28 mm Log Cabins

Over many, many years I have stated more than once, and a few of you will say out there I have said it more than that, that 28mm log cabins are crap.

Then low and behold, 3 weeks ago I changed my mind. ( this came as a shock)..

A friend of mine contacted me and asked me to visit his production of new 28mm log cabins.

Sadly, all the 28mm log cabins I have ever come across normally manufactured in an old building, with old machines, using cheap timber, and have badly constructed windows and doors.

So with this in mind, I went to visit my friends mill, with a preconceived idea that what I would find would be rubbish.

I can honestly say, the timber was some of the best I have ever seen.

Northern Russian Pine, amazing quality, hardly any knots, planed and profiled (double tongue and grooved).

The windows and doors were good quality, and the finish was I think as good as our 45mm cabins.

The pricing on these units was incredible and I know that the UK market will eat them up and demand more.

I have waited nearly 14 years to find a manufacture that actually cares about how to produce a quality 28mm log cabin.

Holiday companies more and more are now offering their clientele to stay in a rustic looking cabin style chalets.

This kind of off grid holiday lifestyle is becoming more and more popular, and with the eco badge stuck firmly to the brochure.

In 201 log cabins were almost 50% cheaper, yet the timber price, oil and standard of living is the same then as now!

Also in those days, it was OK to sell a 28mm log cabin, which was say 4m x 5m.

Now 28mm logs are used for a lot smaller cabins, and only a few companies still offer this shamefully thin log.

Manufacturing -Offering 28mm log cabins comes with responsibilities, yet few who offer these care if the buildings are fit for purpose.
