Due to the different materials used in construction, tiny homes are not the same as insulated double-skin log cabins. Cladding, panelling, and other materials are frequently used in tiny houses to provide insulation and protection from the weather. They are typically constructed with timber frames. Due to their lower size and lack of need for the same structural calculations, tiny homes do not have the same structural requirements as double-skin log cabins. This is easy to say, try and explain, but in reality, its hard to picture. so if you think of a phone book and a piece of paper, the piece of paper sadly does not have much in the way of strength compared to the phone book, and that’s the difference between what you receive from us and what you don’t receive from the UK-based building companies.

And that also applies to tiny houses; the quality of the strength is very much an issue, and the quality of the build is also an issue; most will stick build it in the back, so if it rains everything is wet, and if they have just started, it means your tiny house is core wet to start with. Not a great start and leads to lots of rot in the centre of the walls. And as we know, mould can kill. Sadly, many people have fallen for this over the years, and it’s a massive problem to get rid of. Now, a lot of house manufacturers in the UK do stick build, that means your back garden is there factory work space, Say that’s ok for timber to get a bit wet, well, that may be the case if they manufacture your tiny house with cheap timber, but we use only the best KD C24, and it is unwise to get KD which means Kiln Dried timber wet, its KD because it must last minimum 100 years+ and C24 is a visual grade, that means its quality through and through.

So, you have learned a lot in this blog about what a tiny house should be manufactured from, only really, as you want it to last a long time and to be very energy efficient.

BUT THEY COST!!!!!!

Twinskin Flat Packed Log Cabins are perfect for that extra-insulated building in the garden, easy to get into the garden, and easy to assemble, and our windows and doors are not some ghastly PVC or awful cheap put together in a hurry affair , ours are superb quality manufactured from Joinery glue, which means no cold bridging, 28mm glass, and all German hardware; they are simply the best in the industry as a standard window, most companies would charge you £1000 a double door and 700 for a double window if you wanted them manufactured As a matter of note, I designed the twin skin system and have the first ever 44mm x 44mm with a 50mm gap in the garden, it’s a 3m x 2m dog kennel! And that’s why we built the first; obviously, there were no windows or doors, but it has 2 rooms.

Lots of people make the mistake in thinking that a dog goes into his or her kennel and likes the cold air running over him or her all night, they don’t; a dog needs to go into a two-room kennel with a heated floor for winter, where they can go around the corner and then in the back, and because of the base, walls and roof are insulated, the flooring is made from non-bug carpeting, and the whole pent roof lifts off, so cleaning is easy if you have a good friend that will help you lift it off, as it is insulated and has gutters attached, etc, but Your best friend (dog) is as snug as a bug in a rug!

The Twinskin system is perfect for going up two stories, and it’s easy to adjust the amount of insulation (foil back) you add to the Twin Skin Log Cabin. we can increase the thickness of the logs and insulation, depending on what you need, where you are, and what kind of conditions you want the cabin to cohabitate in. in. It’s amazing to think that you can have 44mm x 44mm or 70mm x 70mm; we can even do 90mm x 90mm, which would make the walls 280mm thick, There is nothing that would blow that over, we would rod itif it’s needed to the concert base, and that’s the beauty of our twin skins.

We can also manufacture shutters for the windows and doors if you put them in a holiday park surroundings and wanted to leave them over the winter empty, and unattended, you can shutter them up, or if you’re on the Greek Islands, your customers want to go to sleep; just shut the shutters and the sun disappears. our Twinskin Insulated Log Cabins are so versatile and cost-effective.

And we looked years ago. So ours is slow grown, and good quality.

Russia has without doubt the best timber in the world, forget canada, they mostly have douglas fir and Cedar, which is not particularly good for cabins, Russia Red and White is what you need your cabin manufactured from, and that’s where we come in, unlike most in the world, our timber is Russian, which is why the pine is so Red, it’s tough amazing timber that is perfect for cabins, and it’s all I want to manufacture from.

Why am I so mad on Pine, simple it soaks up the treatment quickly and deeply, spruce does not!

At Log Cabins LV we pay lots of attention to our products’ durability.

One of the way of extending woods service time is impregnation, especially in places where timber might be constantly affected by excess humidity or water.

Such places are log cabin’s wall bearers, floor bearers and/or terrace decking bearers.

The impregnation system that we at Log Cabins LV use and which proved to be very effective is called Tanalith® E. Timber impregnated using this methodology undergoes several stages.

Seasoned timber has to be stacked just like for drying except that the size of the stack cannot exceed limitations set by impregnation chamber manufacturer. After loading timber stack in to a hermetic impregnation chamber the stack is pressed top to bottom by a hydraulic press in order to prevent timber boards twisting and warping during the impregnation process, the press releases only when timber stack is ready to be taken out of the chamber.

When chamber door closes and seals air tight powerful vacuum generators start reducing the pressure inside. When the pressure drops to a minimum the whole chamber gets flooded with liquid preservative agent, in case of our log cabins with Tanalith® E. After this the pressure is raised to atmospheric and timber starts sucking liquid in. Then the pressure is raised further to over 8bars in order to force preservative deep in to the wood.

The last phase of pressure treatment involves dropping pressure to atmospheric level, draining out impregnation liquid and creating vacuum again to remove excess amounts of liquid from the wood. By that time wood preserving substances are locked inside wood. This part end by normalizing pressure to match atmospheric. Door is opened and stack removed from the chamber.

Before using treated timber must drip off any remaining liquid residues and dry out. Log Cabins from us comes with pressure treated wall and floor bearers that are pre manufactured to the right lengths and do not require sawing or any other manipulation other than laying them in correct order. However if for some reason impregnated timber were to be cut notched or drilled, one must apply end grain preservative to maintain the integrity of the treatment.

Tanalised® E timber can be safely used in applications with log cabins where untreated timber would not last and rot rather quickly.
