While trawling the web, I came across a company offering glulam log cabins. Obviously as this is my passion, quality timber, glulam, buildings etc, I decided to have a look through their gallery. I was shocked to see the condition of the timber. So I just thought I would show the difference between quality laminated timber, Ours, And the not so good glulam timber ( firm X).

I will leave it up to you to decide who you would rather manufacturer your glulam cabin!

These logs are honestly awful, this is not graded Glulam. The grains on each log should be opposing to the one next to it, this glulam is Rubbish! BEWARE,,

As I am sure a few of you remembered the 120mm glulam sports pavilion we built last month, here are so amazing internal photos. What you should notice is the thickness of the purlins, central and each side, also the weight bearing purlins running down the middle from back to front. As you will notice these are completely an over kill in size, but we believe in always manufacturing our glulam log cabins to be ready for all things mother nature may think to bruise or batter them!

Quality Glulam Log Cabins

When purchasing any log cabin, be it Solid Log, Laminated, or Scandinavian, always check the dimensions of the weight bearing timbers. (Important)

As you can see here, we use, 120mm x 600mm rafters to hold up our roof, this is a serious over kill, but when you are paying less, and getting more, we know come wind or snow, your roof is going to stand the test of time.

Laminated Log Cabins, Good and Bad!

While trawling through different videos on supposedly quality laminated cabins,a few things caught my eye and I just want to share these with you. Firstly, if a company is selling a laminated building, you would think that while they are laminating the logs, they would remove all offending unsightly timber, knots, wane, splits etc from the logs. We as a manufacture only use as a base start C24 which is the highest grade in visual grading for KD FSC Timber, we then cut out nearly all the knots to make C32 or C40, which is a grade most companies in the UK-Europe have never heard of, never mind manufacture with. So while I was looking intensely at other companies videos I noticed something that shocked me, ( pic below) the timber has a huge long dead knot? so how is this laminated? How is it graded? And this is why there needs to be a government grading for laminated logs, as sadly glulam laminated timber is sometimes just bits of old rubbish glued together.

Next, looking through the same video, i noticed that one of the main supporting beams, was as you can see from the photo coming away from the next in line above, these should be connected together with bolts. This means the roof will eventually bow. It also means that this cabin was not subjected to structural calculations, and quite possibly built using the BS 3632 code, which we have said time and time again is a joke! When buying any kind of residential building, be it Log, Laminated, or timber frame, we would always suggest putting said building through structural calcs.

If you are thinking of putting a log cabin in your garden and you want a quality log cabin that will last the test of time, then you need think about what type of material you should be looking into having your cabin manufactured from.

99.9% of log cabins companies in the Europe cannot offer laminated timber, and the ones that can, will not be offering Engineered C32 Graded, FSC laminated timber.

Laminated Log cabin timber (fondly known as the everlasting log), is not just from old bits of timber stuck together, scrap and off cut’s, well ours aren’t!

Our raw planks are all graded C24 FSC quality timber. There are a multitude of different laminated timber thicknesses available and once this timber goes through our full production line the quality level reaches a staggering C32 to C40. This grade is unheard of in Europe! And is never, ever, used in the manufacturing production of Log Cabins. And this stands us out from the rest.

This article is about Cheap Log Cabins and the misery they cause.

When looking for a Log Cabin-Timber Shed- Wooden Cabin for your Garden, you need to be very careful what you buy.

If your looking for a cheap shed to put your lawn mower away, and you’re not too concerned about quality then there are so many companies offering Cheap! But Cheap means Cheap!

Logcabins.lv has the largest range of Quality Clock House Log cabin designs in the World!

If you see a Clock House Log Cabin in 44mm and it is being offered for under 3000 Pounds-Euros, then be prepared for problems. A quality Clock House will offer double purlins, a cheap one offers you single purlins, this will mean on the single purlin clock house you must expect the roof to bow in in the middle after a few years, a quality Clock House Log Cabin will also offer very heavy windows and doors. A Clock House for instance has 8 double glazed windows , and a double glazed double door, 4 windows and the double doors are placed all in the front wall, this makes the wall weak, as there is very little timber holding them in place. We are the original designers of the clock house log cabin, we understood the problems this cabin could have, and designed ours to be incredibly strong in areas that could cause problems years down the line. Sadly so many customers know very little about the build process, or the designing that goes into such a timber structure. We also offer 28mm flooring in all our cabins, all cheap manufactures will offer this as an up grade. Also our windows are VERY HEAVY, as the glass is 24mm argon filed and the windows all tilt and turn from 44mm and upwards. We also offer double glazing in our 34mm cabin, this is economy none the less its double glazing, where most if not all manufacturers will offer this to you as an upgrade.

We would recommend that you think very carefully before buying any cheap cabin!

Cheap Cabins cause misery to thousands of people yearly do not be caught out or enticed to buy rubbish, you will regret it…
